Grab Uncle Jake's old straw hat, Grandma's old dress.. even the dog's bandana.. whatever it takes to make your scarecrow special!  

Traditional or unique, make your scarecrow the best in town.

Scarecrows are a part of our folklore.  From earliest times, people have been creating scary creatures in their own images to protect their crops and gardens.  Here is your chance to create a scarecrow and compete for prizes, at the same time displaying your talents while delighting passersby at the Southern Fried Festival in downtown Columbia, September 26 & 27.  Your creative talents will be appreciated and recognized.

There are going to be two categories and two divisions for you to compete in.

Categories: 

Divisions:

Traditional Harvest Figures : These scarecrows will be typically old-fashioned figures constructed from throwaways from the farm, clothing, hay stuffing, burlap, farm implements, corn husks, etc.

Humorous Scarecrows : These scarecrows should evoke smiles. Current events, storybook characters, cartoon figures, or crazy characters are just a few of the ideas for humorous scarecrows.  These characters should be fictional.

Business and Organizations : This would be any business, charitable group, civic organization, association, or school.

Family : Any group of individuals (roommates, families, friends) that want to work together to create a scarecrow qualifies for this division.

There will be monetary prizes awarded for first ($100.00), second ($75.00), and third ($50.00) in each division and category.

  Also, there will be an overall BEST OF SHOW winner that will receive $100.00
